0.5.6 performance problem

Is it only me, who has big performance problem after update to 0.5.6?
Asus Transformer.
ASUS Transformer TF101, Android HC 3.2.1, FW WW_epad-8.6.5.21-20111216, all times are GMT+1.

me too. but i would not say big...sometimes it feels a little bit laggy. first time i thought it was the new location new york but the other locations are laggy too. i wait now for the ICS update of my transformer and give it a new try.

well, it didn´t feel smooth in this version. sometimes (many monsters on screen) i have some stutter/framedrops and i cant aim very well because the "aim-arrow" makes a jump. even a perfomance problem you know? ;)

We recently improved the stability of the game and we will definitely have a look at the performance, soon. On Tegra 3 devices Soulcaft runs really smooth and that makes it even more fun to play. I'm convinced there are still lots of optimization options left to improve performace. So stay tuned and thanks for your feedback! :-)

sure, its still a beta. but Tegra 3 schould not to be the standard.

Sure, as Castor say, it is not smooth. I know, this is beta so i ask only if it is only my problem or if it is worldwide problem. I record some video, where you can see stutter/framedrops withou any monsters on screen or in game. There is only one hellgate. Feel free to look at it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6gnyFLgObs .

Thanks Preseda3D, looks like you are stuck in the wall. We already tried to fix this bug but it seems we are not done with this, yet. But your FPS look quite ok...Probably we may think of adding a FPS counter that you can turn on so you can sent us the FPS count...I think I need to talk to the programmers about this. ^^

Example: Between 0:13 and 0:16 there are some stutter/framedrops. I think that average framerate will be ok but sometimes it go down to cca 2 or 3 fps. So min framerate is problem.

okay my asus transformer has the new ICS update and i am glad that i can still play soulcraft. :)

i didn´t noticed any changes in the perfomance with the new OS. but what i can say. New York have the badest performance for me!

This stutter is even there when I disabled terrain rendering completely,
with no enemy visible.
Maybe some kind of multithreading hickup. I will investigate this soon.

Yes, I noticed more stuttering than normal in this build. The New York location has the worst stuttering.


Why is that so? Mine actually stutters every 5 - 10 seconds, but I've gotten used to it anyways. The game should run without almost stuttering (all games stutter once in a while). Maybe this is some coding error?


I have, I believe, a capable device in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, so it'd be great to see the game run without stutter.


PS: The effect is basically the same whether I kill all background apps or not.

Good news,
today I found the cause for the stuttering.
It was caused by some (unnecessary) thread synchronization code inside the main gameloop.
(Third party framework code)
I wrote a workaround which fixes this issue :)

Will be part of the next update^^

Since we had to attend to MobileWorldCongress last week, and Cebit this week, we have a 1 week release shift.
This means the next release is sheduled for Thursday 15.03.2012
